Preliminary Task -- Synopsis

My preliminary task will only be based on a conversation between two people. The first actor (RAHUL PURI) will arrive at the door, knock and wait for the second actor to open the door. The second actor (SOPHIE PURI) opens the door and lets Rahul in. They both sit down and Rahul explains the troubles he is having in recent times.

These troubles he has are that he has no idea on what to include in his Media Studies AS Level Preliminary Task. This is when Sophie decides to step in and advise him on using their current conversation as the main focus of the project. The acting here will be moderately dramatic.

All filming will be done by only myself with a friend helping me with some of the equipment set up.

The name of this short clip will be called 'What do I do?'

Preliminary Task -- Ideas

I have three main ideas for my preliminary task before I decide on the final idea.

These Include:

1) The cliché of a drug deal. Two people meet in a dark alley way and they exchange money for drugs and the three required shots would be easy to include.

2) A police man knocking at a family home's door to tell them bad news that the husband has died in a car crash. The three camera shots would be also easier to include here but with a little more difficulty.

3) A person who is doing AS Media Studies and is doing their preliminary task but has no idea on what to put into their task. He then visits his friend as a source of advice who tells him to put the conversation they have as his content for his preliminary task. This is based on a true story as the person with this dilemma is me in real life as I faced this issue.

Preliminary exercise: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Main task: The titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a minimum of two minutes.

All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidates(s), with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source. Both preliminary and main tasks may be done individually or as a group. Maximum four members to a group.
